Overview"This book contains Varanasi style of reading Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. More than 30 illustrations were included in the book to engage readers with the context of topics. Varanasi happened to be the nodal centre for Indian Philosophical thought from prehistoric times to till date. At Varanasi, scholars have accumulated unbound wisdom over many generations through debates, discussions and discourses. They defined boundaries for the logical interpretation of various sacred texts including the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Yoga Sutras. These logical boundaries are named Shat Darshana (Six Schools of Indian Philosophy). Without having basic knowledge of Shat Darshanas it is difficult to understand any sacred Indian text. This book introduces Shat Darshanas to readers in the initial chapters. In this book, Bhagavad Gita is referred to 600 times and Yoga Sutras around 50 times, bringing out the essence of both sacred texts. Many questions were answered from the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras. "" Are we puppets in the hands of destiny or our destiny is in our hands ?"", "" What are the Methods recommended by Patanjali Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita to calm the mind ?"", "" ""Is the Law of Karma infalliable or can it be escaped ?', "" Who is God, and Does He has Shape"", "" What is Sin, Is it Possible to wash off past sins?"" "" Is it wrong to have desires?', "" Does Religion Allow Deriving Pleasures using Senses"" "" What to do if there is a contradiction between the religious beliefs Vs Basic Human Values, which one is to be prioritized ?"", "" What is the Difference between Soul (Atman) and Super soul ( Paramatma}, "" At Liberation whether Soul merges with Super soul?"" "" What is Birth, what influences our birth"" and "" Is Any one superior by birth ?"" "" How to tame senses and fill the mind and heart with Divinity"", such questions were answered using the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras as the reference texts. Visible multiplicity of Hindu practices and their latent unity is brought out. The style of philosophical thought present in this book and the sequence of presentation of the book, mimic the style of teachings followed at Varanasi. The style followed in this book, trains and enables readers to comprehend the true meaning of the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras on their own. This book brings out what is Sin, its consequences, the importance of reforming the self through austerities of action ( Karma Yoa), austerities for body, mind, and heart, austerities of speech, austerities of right association and austerities of pursuing right knowledge, methods to control mind during meditation. Towards the end of the book, one chapter was included with thirty-two slokas from Bhagavad Gita with meanings. One who reads these slokas can grasp the essence of the Bhagavad Gita. Every effort was made to make this book a guidebook for day-to-day life for people from all walks of life. Even a small effort made in the direction recommended in this book can elevate us in both professional and spiritual life."
