In middle school, every first day matters. Meet Kayla. She's excited to be back in school because going an entire month without seeing Sean was painful. No, he's not her boyfriend-yet. They became friends at surf camp over the summer and she's convinced seventh grade will be great with Sean as her soon-to-be-boyfriend. But before school even starts she's minus one best friend. What does seventh grade have in store for her? Meet Sean. He's not exactly thrilled to be back in school. He'd much rather be at the beach surfing or at soccer practice or gaming with his friends. But at least he has a few classes with friends. And science winds up being the best class because not only is his best friend and his only friend whose a girl in that class, but so is the beautiful and popular Courtney Crenshaw. What luck! Author Information

Heather Still earned her Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Lindenwood University. She has taught English and history at her bay area middle school since 2016. Her young adult writing career launched from a fabulous First Seven Sentences writing workshop by Maggie Stievater and Court Stevens that took place on Treasure Island back in 2015. Kayla's Breakup Survival Guide is her most recent book in her Surviving Seventh Grade series. She loves traveling to foreign and familiar places, preferably with her twin sons. Heather loves living in the San Francisco Bay Area, learning with her students, and playing with her standard poodles.
