The third edition has undergone more extensive revision with the refinement and incorporation of chapters to reduce any duplication. The book production generally good, but I expected colour illustrations and photos, and colour coding for titles and tables etc to make them more readable. Moreover, in this day and age, I expected a CDROM with the book, containing those photos which did not make the book. This notwithstanding, however, every GI surgeon must have this set of books in their collection.

The authors suggest that in future it may be published online with more proactive editing to keep it at the cutting edge.
