The Air Force is embarking on a sustainment vision that transforms the Purchasing and Supply Chain Management (PSCM) functions to better support the ultimate customer -- the warfighter. The task at hand for the DoD logistician, and in turn the Air Force Supply Chain Manager, is to provide world class materiel support at the best possible price. To do this, most would agree that an overhaul of the supply chain management (SCM) process is needed. The purpose of this paper is to focus on both the Air Force and private industry SCM measures and metrics. A comparative analysis between the industry and Air Force metrics is presented, with an assessment of the measures to determine the effectiveness of Air Force SCM transformation.
