Overview

The Japanese Pharmacopoeia is the only English language edition that is fully endorsed by the Society of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. It provides the official Japanese standard for the description and quality of drug substances and products. Supplement I to the Japanese Pharmacopoeia provides an update on the Fifteenth Edition. It comprises in order as follows: The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Ministerial Notification; Contents; Preface; General Notices; General Rules for Crude Drugs; General Rules for Preparations; General Tests, Processes and Apparatus; Official Monographs; Infrared Reference Spectra; Ultraviolet-visible Reference Spectra; Index; Index in Latin name; and, Index in Japanese. The Official Monographs section of Supplement 1 to the 15th edition of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia contains approximately 260 articles, 6 articles have been deleted, 90 articles have been added, and the remaining articles have been revised. The following test has been newly-added to the General Tests, Process and Apparatus Section: 6.11 Foreign Insoluble Matter Test for Ophthalmic Solutions. Revisions have been made to the following 10 tests: 1.09 Qualitative Tests; 2.0 1 Liquid Chromatography; 2.02 Gas Chromatography; 2.48 Water Determination (Karl Fisher Method); 2.49 Optical Rotation Determination; 4.01 Bacterial Endotoxins Test; 4.05 Microbial Limit Test; 6.01 Test for Metal Particles in Ophthalmic Ointments; 6.08 Insoluble Particulate Matter Test for Ophthalmic Solutions; and, 6.10 Dissolution Test.
