Overview
Young Andy is your average nerd. He is scrawny, wears glasses, is exceptionally good at maths and is in love with the popular girl, Zoe. He is fairly lonely, both at school and at home. His parents pay more attention to his older sister, but his best friend and closest confidant is his grandpa. After his grandpa is tragically diagnosed with cancer and dies, Andy learns fairly quickly of his ability to see and communicate with his grandpa's ghost. With his grandpa still by his side, Andy strives to gain the courage to ask Zoe out. But when an evil spirit jeopardises her safety, Andy must use his newfound gift, as well as abilities he already possessed, to become the hero and save the day.

Andy is a 6th grader who excels at math and video games. Unfortunately, he also feels isolated from the world, with the exception of his best friend: his grandfather. Grandpa is the one person with whom Andy feels he can confide his troubles about school bullies and the fact that he has fallen in love with Zoe, the most popular girl in his class. Unexpectedly, Grandpa is diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer and passes away shortly thereafter. As the family mourns the loss of Grandpa, Andy is visited by Grandpa's ghost! Grandpa tells Andy that he is going to stay with him until his grandson touches Zoe's heart and is invited to birthday parties. Together, they plan their strategy. When helping Zoe with a missing school assignment, Andy overhears an evil ghost that plans to burn down Zoe's apartment. Andy is able to rescue Zoe's family, thus securing her affection as well as earning respect from his classmates. This paranormal coming-of-age story will resonate with middle grade readers, especially those who have lost a grandparent or someone close to them.
