Author Information

Ivan Amato is a freelance science writer and associate editor for Science News. His work has been published in many magazines, including Science, Time, Scientific American, Fortune, Technology Review, Wired, and dozens of newspapers. Physicist Philip Morrison served four years with the Manhattan Project, taking part in the test of the first atomic bomb. Since then, he has written and spoken widely against nuclear war and the arms race. Morrison is well known for his numerous books (Powers of Ten), films, and television specials (the PBS series ""The Ring of Truth""). He is currently Institute Professor, Emeritus, and Professor of Physics, Emeritus, at MIT. Morrison is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
