Derrick and his wife Brittni, who share six children together, proudly founded the Derrick Johnson Defend the Dream Foundation in 2012 with the mission to provide low-income and inner city young people the opportunities and resources to reach their full potential. Derrick is a Hall of Fame Texas Longhorn linebacker and first-round draft pick in 2005 by the Kansas City Chiefs. He retired after thirteen seasons with the Chiefs as their all-time leading tackler in franchise history.Derrick grew up with an educational mindset. His mother, a 40+ year educator, instilled in him a love of books and brought him up to trust and believe in God. Education and faith have been a driving, positive force in his life. Now, he and his wife Brittni are driven to pass these amazing values on to the children they can influence.
