Summertime & the Living is Easy By Edwina Louise Dorch Ten year old Jasmine wants to be a preacher until the day she begins to question her faith. Her friend, Cindy, seems to have everything, including a father who loves her. Jasmine, on the other hand, wears shoes held together with safety pins and her step daddy is unkind. These contrasts make Jasmine begin to question if God is real. The back and forth dialogue between Jasmine and her brother and their comaraderie are enjoyable and realistic. Ms. Dorch's unexpected ending will leave the reader feeling hopeful about Jasmine and her future. -Brenda Woods
