Ms.Denvil certainly has an in-depth understanding of the dark side of those days (torture, execution, pirate behaviour etc.). Such amazing graphic descriptions- as if she had been there herself! Discovering Diamonds Book of the Month: the plot is tight, well-crafted and tied up neatly with no loose ends. Each of the major characters are deliciously irreverent, the settings evocative, from the beauty of Somerset to the torture chambers in The Tower and the entire book convinces you that you are indeed in the late 15th Century. Amazon Customer: This author has a gift for characters that are well-drawn and intriguing, such a rare gift - too often I set books aside having lost all interest in the fate of the people inside them. This time we meet an entire extended family with warring members, some of them twisted and darkly dangerous; some dabbling their fingers in risky business. As usual the plot races along with unpredictable twists and turns. Leah Weller: Every page takes you deeper into a maze of plots and surprises that will have you hating to place it down for any reason until you turn that last page. Richard: Each of the major characters are deliciously irreverent, the settings evocative, from the beauty of Somerset to the torture chambers in The Tower and the entire book convinces you that you are indeed in the late 15th Century. And there are some surprises as to who did what to whom, to keep you guessing, especially the final denouement which, whilst no longer so important, will have you saying, 'I didn't see that coming'! This is a great read - with an eye-catching cover - from a prolific author and her fans will adore this book. My Book Addiction: SUMERFORD'S AUTUMN by Barbara Gaskell Denvil is a exciting Medieval historical fiction set in 1485 England. Fast paced, adventure with twists and turns you won't see coming. Written with vivid descriptions and a cast of characters that will take your breath away. Anna B: One of the absolute joys in this novel is the dialogue. It is fast, it is witty and it is very individually flavoured, making speech tags rather redundant as it is obvious who has spoken. Add to this a poetic, descriptive language in which the author inserts historical detail with such lightness of hand one scarcely notices it, and you have a most enjoyable reading experience. Author InformationMy passion is for late English medieval history, I have written six historical fiction novels set around this period, but I also have a love of fantasy and the wild freedom of imagination that this brings. My trilogy 'Stars and a Wind' is a wonderful example of that freedom. And for all the younger readers, I have just released the latest installment of my Children's fantasy series, Bannister's Muster. Although some of my books have romantic undertones, they are not purely romances. There is adventure, crime, mystery and suspense with lots of twists and drama. My greatest loves are the beauty of the written word and bringing my characters to life, taking the reader with me into another world. Be it fantasy, historical or a combination of the two.
