OverviewThe impact of substance abuse and addictions in the foodservice industry is a major concern affecting the lives of employees, employers, and customers in America. With the general population being affected by the impact, there is a growing need to support employees' mental and medical health. Consumers, employers, and communities are being impacted by the lack of support and the culture created in this industry. This doctoral project explored an extensive analysis of literature completed through a theoretical study with a systematic review related to the topic. Evidence was provided showing various significant factors when dealing with substance abuse and addictions. By viewing this topic from Beck's Cognitive Theory and Gray's Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory, a methodical and thorough examination of the available literature. The two modalities were adopted to support employees and employers struggling with substance abuse and addiction by reducing symptoms and the adverse effects in the workplace. Many strategies will be needed to decrease the epidemic of substance abuse and addiction in the foodservice industry. Further research is also necessary on this subject matter to improve psychological well-being and help mitigate mental health symptoms associated with this behaviour affected by substance abuse and addictions.
