Overview

This volume is devoted to the memory of the Dutch carcinologist Lipke Bijdeley Holthuis (1921-2008) who dedicated his life to the taxonomy and systematics of Crustacea. His scientific career started in 1941 with his first publications and continued for 68 years in which he produced over 600 titles totalling almost 13000 pages describing more than 400 taxa new to science. In this volume his friends and colleagues pay tribute to his legacy. Included are an extensive biography and over 50 papers mainly dealing with systematic and taxonomic issues, which emanate from his knowledge and inspiration.

Charles H.J.M. Fransen, Ph.D. (2002) in Systematic Biology, Leiden University, is researcher/curator of Crustacea at the Netherlands Centre for Biodiversity - Naturalis in Leiden, The Netherlands. He has published extensively on decapod taxonomy and systematics. Sammy De Grave, Ph.D. (1999) in Systematic Biology, University College Cork, is the Curator of Zoology at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, United Kingdom. His main research interests is the taxonomy and systematics of caridean shrimps. Peter K.L. Ng, Ph.D. (1990) in Zoology, National University of Singapore, is Professor of Zoology at the National University of Singapore and Director of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research. He has published extensively on systematics and ecology of Indo-West Pacific crabs.
