Structural Dynamics for the Practising Engineer

Overview

Stuctural dynamics is a complex and increasingly important field of civil/structural engineering. The aim of this concise book is to demonstrate to practising engineers and advanced students that the dynamic response of structural systems can be understood without advanced techniques of analysis and impenetrable detail. Nearly all systems can be reduced to equivalent single-degree systems and the quality of the resulting information is often adequate for decision making. The author has therefore concentrated on single-degree systems, although multi-degree systems are introduced in the final chapter, and has employed many worked examples drawn from practice. The book is fully illustrated and exercises are provided at the end of each chapter.

Reviews

The book fulfils the promise of its title; it provides an excellent introduction to structural dynamics in the context of the problems likely to be encountered by the practising engineer. The level of treatment would be within reach of a third-year undergraduate, but the methods, discussions, and results, should be of value to many design offices involved in dynamic analysis. - The Structural Engineer This book is a must of the practising structural dynamicist. It, or similar works, should be required for students of this topic, who often lack the physical insights to apply their knowledge and techniques to real problems. - The Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering One of its great values is the large number of examples simply but realistically presented. - Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics.
