OverviewStrokes, due to their frequency and severity, remain a major problem for national healthcare systems. Following our study conducted in the neurology department of the Hubert K. Maga in Cotonou on the medium- and long-term morbidity and mortality of strokes, we can conclude, in light of the results obtained, that: mortality from stroke remains high in the medium and long term, with several associated factors, the most predictive of which are age, marital status and the presence of aphasia. Disability and dependency remain significant after a stroke. It therefore follows that reducing stroke-related mortality and morbidity inevitably requires tackling risk factors, providing appropriate and up-to-date care during the acute phase, with a particular focus on secondary prevention.
