Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationBarron Deaderick was born on a plantation in Shelby County, Tennessee, near Memphis, in 1886. During World War I he served sixteen months as an infantryman, part of the time as second lieutenant and commander of a company of candidates in Officers’ Training School, and as bayonet instructor. Subsequently he became a cotton buyer. Early in life he became interested in the study of history, and especially of military campaigns. His zeal in these researches has never flagged. Besides his Strategy in the Civil War, he has in preparation a history of the military operations in general of American forces in all of our wars. In his studies he has specialized on the basic principles of grand strategy as laid down by leading authorities, including Jomini, Clausewitz, Moltke, Henderson, Foch, Maurice, and Fuller.
