OverviewThis work presents a model that supports the development of strategic thinking in organizations by defining the attributes of a strategic thinker and the organizational elements that develop these attributes in the members of an organization. To this end, qualitative descriptive research was conducted using the single-case, in-depth case study research method. The theoretical basis that guided the research involves the study of the term strategy, through its different perspectives and the implications of its use in organizations, highlighting the gaps that arise in the strategic planning process; the functioning of the minds of strategists, involving the process of strategic decision-making, leadership, human cognition, and mental models; the learning process and the process of strategic thinking, its concepts and application. The conclusion of the research points to the importance of new ways of thinking about strategy, going beyond the logic and linearity proposed by strategic planning, which alone no longer meets the needs of organizations, due to the unstable environment in which they operate.
