Still Your Heart Will Grow: Loving and grieving a pregnancy loss

Overview

Avery loves looking through old family photo albums with her mama. One day, she discovers a picture of Mama with a big belly. Through simple questions and loving answers, Avery learns about her older brother, Alex, who was stillborn before she could ever meet him. Soon Avery begins to understand who Alex is and why he will always be part of her family. As the conversation unfolds, Avery discovers that even when someone is gone, love can continue to grow. Still Your Heart Will Grow creates gentle space for remembrance, shared grief, and connection. It helps families talk with young children about pregnancy loss and explore how love, compassion, and family bonds can grow alongside loss.

Author Information

Aleah Toews lives in rural Manitoba with her husband, daughter, and their beloved Bernese mountain dog. She has always enjoyed writing as a way to reflect and make sense of life's experiences. After the birth of her daughter, Aleah began to process how she would share with her, her firstborn son Alex, stillborn at 39 weeks. Still Your Heart Will Grow grew out of those conversations, shaped by lived experience and the need for gentle, age-appropriate language to talk about pregnancy loss within families. Aleah holds a Bachelor of Human Ecology with a focus in early childhood development. She can be found at www.stillyourheartwillgrow.ca.
