Kevin is not a person. Kevin is a pattern. A Kevin is the writer who has been ""working on a novel"" for ten years and cannot produce a finished book. The dream makes the decisions. The dream spends the money, burns the hours, and demands that everyone around them pretend it is progress. Step Away From the Keyboard, Kevin is not a craft guide, not therapy, and not encouragement. Coyote Gray Jr writes polemical nonfiction and spare literary fiction. His first book, Stay, is a novelette narrated by a spider keeper. His second, Step Away From the Keyboard, Kevin, is a polemical intervention in writing culture that names a pattern it calls Kevin and forces a binary choice: finish the book, or bury the dream.He lives on a ranch in central New Mexico and holds a philosophy degree from UNM. He did not consult anyone before writing Kevin, because the people who would have told him not to are the people the book is about.He does not coach. He does not teach craft. He does not offer workshops, five-step plans, or a newsletter about the writing journey. He writes books and ships them. The lion decides the rest.
