Overview

ScienceWiz(R) Inventions STEM Club Edition: This multi-award winning book and kit uses everyday materials to build a spinning motor, a clicking telegraph, a light-flashing generator and a real radio. The use of simple materials (no plastic required) helps to demystify the why as well as the how. The Stem Club Edition includes a step by step, fully-illustrated, 40 page book that makes the projects very doable and the explanations easy to understand. It also includes a 36 page workbook packed with related activities that link to online explorations. Decode the secret password embedded in the workbook to earn an achievement badge. Imagine building a working radio using only aluminum foil, wire and a diode. That's it. No battery required. Imagine making a spinning motor using only paper clips, a magnet, a bit of wire and a battery. Light a bulb by spinning a coil of wire next to a bar magnet. Make a telegraph click and send coded messages to a friend using just two paper clips, a nail, wire and a battery. Every day materials, indeed! These are all inventions with coils. With them you can explore the discoveries of Michael Faraday and Nikola Tesla, scientists and inventors whose work was essential to the creation of the electrical grid.

Reviews

Women's Society of the IEEE after using it for camp programs for elementary school students. The IEEE's review boasted, The projects actually WORK....even for large groups where individualized attention is not possible. Wired Magazine Review by Kathy Ceceri titled: ScienceWiz Inventions Kit has Projects that Actually Work. In the review Kathy said, ScienceWiz kits use simple materials and simple techniques that are pretty much foolproof. And they come with book-size, full-color illustrated instructions that are easy to follow. What's more, the books contain enough background information to explain the science behind the project without overwhelming the beginner.
