OverviewThis project shares my journey growing up with cynophobia-an intense fear of dogs-and the panic attacks I experienced whenever I was near one. For most of my life, I searched for ways to overcome this fear. I tried countless techniques and treatments, but nothing truly worked-until I was 35. Overcoming my fear of dogs once felt impossible. And throughout my search, I could never find books or personal stories that I could genuinely relate to. That's why I wrote this book: for those who are in the same situation, and for parents who have children struggling with this fear and don't know how to help. I want people to understand that this is more common than it seems, that they are not alone, and-most importantly-that it's possible to overcome the phobia and the panic attacks. This is a self-help book, told through the lens of my personal story. My hope is that it brings comfort, encouragement, and practical guidance to anyone going through what I went through. Table of ContentsReviewsEDITOR'S NOTE Stay Away: How to Overcome Your Fear of Dogs MARCH 2025 Stay Away: How to Overcome Your Fear of Dogs, by Amanda Shaw, is a guide for people who are afraid of dogs to lessen and eventually overcome their fear. Cynophobia, or fear of dogs, is more common among people than one might think. The author describes how a once-severe case of fear of dogs, like hers was, interfered with a substantial amount of her life, for years. The author describes psychotherapy, and drugs, that can address it. In the author's case, it took years, but eventually she triumphed, and she could interact ""normally"" with dogs. She is still working on improving her skills.. The author's style is clear and unambiguous. Her message is inspiring. She writes with a welcome clarity, some humor, and depth of understanding. Her honesty in describing her symptoms, and the situations that draw them out, makes the book very accessible to the reader. This personal-level of engagement strongly resonates. My hat is off to the author for writing a book that can potentially help many people to improve their lives. Author InformationAmanda was born and raised in Brazil, where she first discovered her passion for storytelling and communication. Beyond her professional and personal achievements, she is also someone who knows firsthand the struggles of living with cynophobia-a fear of dogs that followed her from childhood into adulthood. Through her journey of healing, Amanda became determined to share her story, offering hope, understanding, and practical advice to others facing similar battles. Her experiences inspire her mission: to break the silence around phobias and mental health, and to remind readers that no fear is too small-or too overwhelming-to overcome.
