OverviewSpin glasses are magnetic materials. Statistical mechanics, a subfield of physics, has been a powerful tool to theoretically analyse various unique properties of spin glasses. A number of new analytical techniques have been developed to establish a theory of spin glasses. Surprisingly, these techniques have turned out to offer new tools and viewpoints for the understanding of information processing problems, including neural networks, error-correcting codes, image restoration, and optimization problems. This book is one of the first publications of the past ten years that provide a broad overview of this interdisciplinary field. Most of the book is written in a self-contained manner, assuming only a general knowledge of statistical mechanics and basic probability theory. It provides the reader with a sound introduction to the field and to the analytical techniques necessary to follow its most recent developments Full Product DetailsAuthor: Hidetoshi Nishimori (, Department of Physics, Tokyo Institute of Technology)Publisher: Oxford University Press Imprint: Oxford University Press Volume: 111 Dimensions: Width: 16.10cm , Height: 1.80cm , Length: 24.20cm Weight: 0.485kg ISBN: 9780198509400ISBN 10: 0198509405 Pages: 256 Publication Date: 19 July 2001 Audience: Professional and scholarly , Professional & Vocational Format: Hardback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: To order ![]() Stock availability from the supplier is unknown. Table of ContentsReviewsAssuming only general knowledge of statistical mechanics and basic probability theory, Nishimori (physics, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan) reviews recent developments in error-correcting codes, image restoration, neural networks, and optimization problems. He provides a unified viewpoint traversing several different research fields with the replica methods as the common language, which emerged from the spin glass theory. The spin glass theory itself is addressed in the first part, followed by statistical-mechanical approaches to information processing problems. --SciTech Book News<br> Author InformationProfessor Hidetoshi Nishimori, Department of Physics, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Oh-okayama, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 152-8551, Japan, Tel.: +81/3/57342488, Fax: +81/3/57342719, email: nishi@stat.phys.titech.ac.jp Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
