Overview""Every scribe instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a householder who brings forth out of his storeroom things both new and old."" Matthew 13:52 St. Thérèse of Lisieux, well acquainted with the Kingdom and famous for showering roses from Heaven, has done it again. In this little book, apt quotations from the Little Flower appear alongside beautiful old fashioned block print images of the traditional Stations of the Cross. The combination provides all little souls - from children, converts, and beginners in the spiritual life to those who have accompanied Jesus for decades - with a fresh set of meditations on Jesus' infinite love as expressed in His Passion and Death. Each Station begins with the customary ""We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee . . ."" and ends with an Our Father, Hail Mary, or Glory Be. Following the fourteen Stations are St. Thérèse's Prayer to the Holy Face, her sister Celine's painting of the Holy Face (after the Shroud of Turin), the indulgenced Prayer Before a Crucifix, and a brief explanation of indulgences. St. Thérèse described prayer as ""a lifting up of the heart; a simple glance heavenwards; a cry of gratitude and of love, in the midst of trials as well as amidst joys. It is something great, something supernatural, which expands the soul and unites it with Jesus."" With this book, she invites readers to join her in a simple glance heavenwards, a cry of gratitude and love, something supernatural to unite the soul with Jesus as He proceeds step by step, Station by Station, to His Passion and Death for love of us. Walk the Way of the Cross with this Doctor of the Church as she brings forth from her Mother's storeroom a blend of prayers both old and new. Perfect for individual devotion, group prayer, and congregational use in a parish, St. Thérèse's little way of spiritual childhood and the Stations of the Cross blend to produce a fragrant offering of love. Table of ContentsReviewsThe pious exercise of the Way of the Cross represents the sorrowful journey that Jesus Christ made with the cross on His shoulders, to die on Calvary for the love of us. We should, therefore, practice this devotion with the greatest possible fervor, placing ourselves in spirit beside our Savior as He walked this sorrowful way, uniting our tears with His, and offering to Him both our compassion and our gratitude. --St. Alphonsus de Ligouri, Doctor of the Church and author of The Passion and Death of Jesus Christ As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners; for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world--mercy triumphed over justice. My daughter, try your best to make the Stations of the Cross in this hour, provided that your duties permit it. --Jesus to St. Faustina Author InformationSuzie Andres is a Catholic wife and mother living and writing in sunny Southern California. She and her husband Tony have been Discalced Carmelite Seculars drawing sustenance from the charism and doctrine of St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and St. Thérèse of Lisieux for thirty years. The fruits of this feasting are available in Suzie's most recent book, Something New with St. Thérèse, Her Eucharistic Miracle, as well as in her previous books: Homeschooling with Gentleness, and A Little Way of Homeschooling (the latter of which features essays by a dozen other Catholic wives and mothers); The Paradise Project (a novel taking its inspiration from Pride and Prejudice, but set as a romantic comedy in a modern day Catholic milieu); and Selected Sermons of Thomas Aquinas McGovern, S.J., a work she edited in collaboration with the late founding president of Thomas Aquinas College, Dr. Ronald P. McArthur. Having earned her undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts at Thomas Aquinas College and a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, Suzie finds her most prized lessons have been learned at the school of the two Little Flowers, St. Thérèse and her spiritual little brother, the Vietnamese Servant of God Marcel Van. The three of them can be found online at Miss Marcel's Musings (suzieandres.com/blog). Her very newest book, commissioned by the Augustine Institute and forthcoming from Ignatius Press is: Being Catholic, What Every Catholic Should Know. St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, more popularly known as St. Thérèse of Lisieux, or the Little Flower, lived from 1873 to 1897 in two small towns in Normandy, France. She grew up in a loving Catholic home, nurtured by her holy parents, St. Louis and St. Zelie Martin, and surrounded by four loving older sisters (all of whom eventually entered religious life). When she was fifteen, Thérèse entered the Carmel of Lisieux, a small monastery where she lived a quiet life for the next nine years, until her early death at twenty-four from tuberculosis. During her illness, this hidden soul prophesied that the whole world would love her, and she promised to spend her Heaven doing good on earth, letting fall a shower of roses after her death. True to her promise, Thérèse became a great intercessor and friend of priests, children, missionaries, religious, and laity alike. Her memoir Story of a Soul was published by her sisters a year after her death and has been translated into more than 60 languages, gaining her an audience in every corner of the earth. She is famous for not only looking down from Heaven, but ""coming down,"" making her presence and love known through the gift of roses, the fragrance of flowers, and answers to petitions which run the gamut from conversions to physical healings. She has been officially named Patroness of the Missions (on a par with St. Francis Xavier), co-Patroness of France (with St. Joan of Arc), and a Doctor of the Church. Devoted wholly to Our Lord especially in His childhood and in His Passion, St. Thérèse loved making the Stations of the Cross. It was during one such Way of the Cross that she experienced, shortly after making her Act of Oblation to Merciful Love, the transpiercing of the Heart spoken of by St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila. In this book, quotations from her writings have been carefully selected to complement and illuminate the traditional 14 Stations, in order that her mission may be fulfilled: to make God loved as she loves Him.
