This is a photo odyssey of a superfan. From the age of 13, Gary Lee Boas would convince his mother to drive him to New York City, where he would sit outside the Broadway theatres with his Kodak Brownie, waiting for the chance to photograph his favourite celebrities. The young superfan hung around parties, launches, restaurants - anywhere where he could have a chance of capturing his idols in the tiny lens of the Kodak. The result is a stunning collection of candid snaps from the golden age of fandom: a decade-long yearbook commemorating a time when the relationship between celebrities and the public was a warmer thing than the fearful rapprochement they endure today. Gary Lee Boas is, was and always will be an obsessively devoted fan of the celebrity stratosphere. Since the release of Starstruck, Boas has become internationally recognized for the snapshots he took of famous people in the 60s and 70s as an unknown fan. His images have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and Europe.
