Overview

This volume is a reading text for beginning- to intermediate-level ESOL students. It is geared to young adult and adult students learning English in the United States and abroad. In the United States, the text would be more appropriate for beginning-level academic students (high school and college) or intermediate-level adult students. The text is a collection of stories about the United States, its people and its history. Each of the 15 chapters is divided into two sections. The first section contains a reading about an historical figure or event, and the second section contains a more contemporary reading based on the same theme. Each of the readings is followed by a mix of exercises and activities to help students build language skills.

Author Information

Pamela McPartland-Fairman has worked in all aspect s of the ESOL field, as a consultant, writer, teacher, teacher-trainer and director of an institute. Pam was the Lead Academic Consultant for the ESOL television series, Connect with English, and the co-writer of the script. She is also the author of several ESOL texts for Prentice Hall and Harcourt Brace.
