7 year old author/youth advocate, LaNiyah Bailey was introduced to the world by way of NPR Radio's Michel Martin's show Tell Me More. Broadcast in over 500 cities and lead a world-wide discussion in support of President Obama's anti-bullying initiative and the epidemic of Bulling in America, March 2011. Shortly thereafter, her phone was ringing off the hook. Major media outlets such as CNN, FOX, NBC, BET, Huffington's Post and many others throughout the world including the UK wanted to know more about this young girl's inspiring courage. It was when she and her parents LaToya Toyiah Marquis White and Songo K. Bailey, decided to speak out and inspire people with her anti-bullying/childhood obesity awareness message by self-publishing her highly-acclaimed, debut children's book Not fat because I wanna be, the book that detailed the story of fictional character Jessica. Bullied because of her size which was inflicted by an underlying medical condition that caused her to gain weight even though she was healthy and active; at such a young age Jessica had to endure some painful and miserable times. The story was based on LaNiyah's very own true to life instances of being bullied and teased because of her weight.
