Stand: An Ohio Life

Overview

""If you make a stand, you will be opposed. If you fight, you may lose the fight. But if you don't fight, you may lose everything."" These words by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost are foundational to the years of dedicated service he has given to his home state. That bulldog tenacity was forged at a young age while growing up in a working-class household north of Columbus. Though he is running for governor of his beloved Ohio home in 2026, Stand: An Ohio Life is no political platform, no blueprint for how he would govern. This book is more useful than that--it is a look inside the mind and soul of a person who offers to lead. Conditions change over time, as do problems and the solutions proposed to solve them. The core of someone seeking the public trust, Yost believes, should grow but not fundamentally change. Stand is a memoir that comes directly and honestly from Yost's heart, a testament to his journey of growing faith and humanity that shapes enduring values, such as fighting the abuse of power, embracing the dignity and responsibility of the individual, and allowing free speech and the free exercise of religion. All of us, whether or not we seek public office, would do well to stay curious about these and other beliefs that are fundamental to the strength of our nation. Discover Attorney General Yost's story now, and join him in a commitment to stand for what is right.

Reviews

""Dave Yost fought against the woke and for the Constitution in court--and won. He tells his life story in a compelling way."" --Vivek Ramaswamy, biotech entrepreneur, author, and codirector of the Department of Government Efficiency for President Donald J. Trump ""Dave Yost and I worked together for years as state attorneys general to protect the United States Constitution and the rule of law. His actions line up with his words. This book is a window into his vision and his heart."" --Jeff Landry, governor of Louisiana ""Dave Yost had to learn how to make a payroll in the private sector before he began his elected public service. He's a national conservative voice published in the Wall Street Journal, the National Review, and even the New York Times, and he has also appeared on television from Fox to CNN. His book tells how he fought public corruption and federal government overreach and helped cut government spending and fought for our rights in court. This year's must-read memoir!"" --Ambassador J. Kenneth Blackwell, NRA board member, chairman of the America First Policy Institute Center for Election Integrity, senior fellow at the Family Research Council, and former statewide Ohio elected official ""I once offered an Ohio audience to trade their Attorney General Dave Yost for Michigan's attorney general plus six legislators to be named later--but I got no takers. This memoir makes it clear why: his life's journey, his love of justice and respect for the rule of law, and his bold leadership offer a compelling vision for a way forward for his state and for our country."" --Dr. Larry P. Arnn, president of Hillsdale College ""When the Biden Administration tried to rewrite Title IX regulations to allow men to compete in women's sports, Attorney General Dave Yost fought back in federal court--and won. He defended Ohio's law protecting sports in state court. As the title of this book says, he's unafraid to take a stand."" --Riley Gaines, host of the Gaines for Girls podcast and author of Swimming Against the Current ""This is a remarkable book. It's one part personal history, one part firsthand account of politics and public policy in Ohio, and one part meditation on the future. Each part is insightful, including hard-earned lessons learned, and some passages, in fact, are moving. Yet most urgently, this is the voice of one Buckeye to his fellow Buckeyes: friends, let's carefully, prayerfully, consider where our state needs to go in the years to come."" --James P. Pinkerton, former aide in the Reagan and George H. W. Bush White Houses and former Fox News contributor

Author Information

Dave Yost was elected Ohio's 51st attorney general in 2018 and reelected in 2022 with more votes than any AG in the state's history. Former prosecutor, journalist, musician, grill meister, and charter member of the Buckeye Nation, he spent much of his life in rural Ohio, where he and his wife, Darlene, raised three children. They have spent the last decade in Columbus, learning to navigate an urban environment as conservatives. Attorney General Yost has extensive experience rooting out corruption and fraud and fighting for increased government accountability and transparency. He previously served as Ohio's 32nd auditor of state, where his public corruption investigations resulted in more than 170 criminal convictions, and he found more than $260 million in potential taxpayer savings. Attorney General Yost is a prolific writer and has been published in media as varied as the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the National Review. He was elected by his peers as president of the National Association of Attorneys General. He and Darlene have five grandchildren, all of whom live in Ohio.
