Overview

This story is a true account of my son's life. I share many stories; some humorous, some sad, as I lead you on an unbelievable journey that is a parent's worse nightmare. The story is very entertaining, but at times, this journey will be almost more than you can endure as you plunge through the challenges my son met on a daily basis while trying to get his life 'back on track.' You will walk with me as the parent of an alcoholic teenager whose escapades seem never ending; you will see inside the life of a teenage addict. You will understand the horror of becoming entangled in an unjust judicial system and of being the victims of police brutality and harassment. You will feel my frustration while searching for the help my son so desperately needed. You will share our grief as life becomes more than we can endure. You will see how God walked us through the most horrible time in our lives. This story is the truth, it is inspired by God, and God wants me to tell it. I am a fifty-nine year old woman from the St. Joseph, IL USA. I spent over thirty years working at the University of Illinois while raising two children, four dogs, and one husband. I have been married to the same wonderful man for over thirty-nine years. We grew up as high school sweethearts. My passion is fishing, camping, and spending time with my family and friends. I believe in God, trust in Jesus Christ, and I love my country. I have never before had the desire to write a book, but God kept insisting this story be told. At the point where the story began writing itself in my brain, I finally sat down and began putting the words to paper. I didn't stop writing for four months. I would get up a five in the morning and write until my husband came home from work at six in the evening. Many times I was still in my pajamas when he got home. I have an extremely valuable story to share with you. My family had never experienced any trouble with law enforcement or the judicial system, so when my son became addicted to drugs and alcohol, everything in our lives changed. Because of these experiences, my average middle class life was permanently altered. I gained a whole new perspective on life, and a new appreciation for the trials and tribulations of others in similar circumstances. I learned the definition of true compassion. I also learned that God is indeed the guide in my life. He was with us every step of the way, but it took writing this book to realize it.
