OverviewSt Mary's Cathedral, Wrexham , is more than a fine neo-Gothic building (designed by Edward Pugin). Published to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the building of St Mary's, this is much more a social history of the Catholic community in a provincial town. The author has woven together the threads of how the Faith survived through the years of persecution to emerge, with the passing of the Catholic emancipation Act, as one of the pillars in what was a predominantly Anglican and Nonconformist community. The story is brought right up to date and place great emphasis upon the development of the Catholic schools in Wrexham, including the newly-opened joint Catholic and Anglican St Joseph's secondary schoolk, an unique institution within Wales.
