OverviewAt a national level the Church of Ireland has been dealt with in some detail by nineteenth century historians, but few have looked at it from the perspective of the local parish. This study of St Catherine's parish, Dublin, sets the parish in the wider context of Dublin city and looks at the population and socio-economic structure of the parish; and also the people and the clergy and their respective roles before and after the disestablishment of the Church of Ireland in 1870. The management of the parish is examined and the church services are described, with particular attention being paid to churchgoing trends.
