OverviewThis is a comprehensive historical account of the church of St Barnabas in Pimlico, London. The foundation stone was laid in 1847 and the church was consecrated in 1850. It became infamous for its Anglo-Catholic practices. The exterior of the building is impressive but the interior is breathtaking, and must rival any other church built in the nineteenth centru for the richness of its elaboration and decoration. Today it is home to an Anglican parish but since 1989 it has also been home to a Melkite community - part of the Greek Catholic Church.
