Reviews

""Buckley is our own sweet cynic, practicing, in vernacular disguises, the golden style of vision and language recommended by Virgil, the acid doubt of Donne and Alan Dugan. Reading his beautiful poems, I feel brotherhood, sustenance, and the grace of a not quite Godless song."" --Garrett Hongo ""I don't think I know of another poet who has such vertical range and depth; Buckley manages to have one foot in the physical muck and tenderness of the world and the other foot planted among the stars and galaxies of the universe. What I like also is his formal restlessness, the different ways he uses to reach his subjects."" --Peter Everwine ""The poems are verbally so rich, generous, inclusive, wry. I like especially the orientation to the large-picture physics/cosmology at the same time that [Buckley] relates his own past...I like the tone--how else to address one's mortality and mixed luck except with irony and affection stirred with gratitude?"" --Dennis Schmitz ""There is a deep nostalgia here, but also wisdom and common sense, and beautiful writing. I welcome him at his maturest, poet of stardust."" --Gerald Stern
