Sprache Und Identitat Im Bukowiner Judentum: Eine Sprachbiographische Analyse

Overview

English summary: At the heart of this study stand fourteen biographical narratives collected in the year 2011 from Holocaust survivors, who had lived the formerly multilingual and multicultural region of Bukovina. The interviewees for this study typically live in the modern state of Israel and are between 80 and 92 years old. Is it also characteristic that they have been influenced both by the peculiarity of the linguistically complex Habsburg monarchy as well as to have maintained throughout their lives, even into old age, multilingual tendencies, for which German was the chief influence on how their the living language was shaped. The focus of this work is the investigation and documentation of the connection between linguistic biography and identity, for which a clarification is detailed in an introductory essay about the methodological and theoretical connection of identity and narrated biography. On the basis of methodological deployment of a ""close-reading"" style of interpretation, various evaluative patterns of language are elucidated. This study also includes a systematic evaluation on the interpretation of German as a native language and its influence, with explanations and representations for Hebrew, Yiddish, and Romanian.
