He received his PhD in analytical chemistry in 1955. As a postdoctoral fellow he worked with Fritz Feigl in analytical chemistry. He participated in microanalytical research conducted at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and developed dry stable reagent tables analyzing hydrazine and nitrate in boiler water by Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana.
