OverviewThrough my part-time work as a coach (athletics), I am very familiar with young people and children. My athletes in the club's competitive group are all excellent pupils, despite the extra time required to pursue their hobby intensively. My wife and I introduced our son, Oliver, to all sorts of sports (tennis, volleyball, skiing, cycling, athletics, unicycling, etc.) at a very early age, to give him a wealth of physical experiences in a fun way. Oliver is one of our most successful athletes (youth national team) in the club. In primary school, on the advice of his teacher, he skipped a year. To date, he is an excellent pupil and attends a technical college. As many of my competitive athletes are very successful at school, my wife and I have often wondered whether sport has a positive impact on everyday school life. The book describes the scientific findings on the effects and benefits of sport on brain function, particularly during the crucial developmental years of childhood and adolescence.
