OverviewSporotrichosis is a subacute or chronic mycotic infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissues characterized by nodular-ulcerated lesions caused by species of the genus Sporothrix. Inoculation of S schenckii into the body occurs accidentally through wounds caused by fomites contaminated by the fungus, such as thorns and sharp objects, but another very common form of infection is zoonotic transmission, mainly through scratching and biting urban cats. Recently, there has been an increase in cases of sporotrichosis in Brazil, so the information from this study on its clinical, epidemiological, laboratory and therapeutic aspects is extremely important for health professionals to establish better care for individuals affected by the disease.
