Overview

"Fired? Sacked? Dismissed? Given the Boot? Shown the Door? No, none of those is adequate - he's going to be escorted to the door flanked by two black uniformed security men. This after being given 5 minutes to clear his desk. The new Managing Director is making a statement about company loyalty and our man is his chosen victim. Even worse, he's at the far end of the large open plan office so, sandwiched between the security men, it's the long walk of shame past his now former colleagues. Will he slope quietly away, tail between legs? No, not our hero! Read how his rebellious exit and its aftermath changes the life of a number of people as our once well regarded young design engineer morphs into a private eye of zero experience. He's been hired to work the sleaze, this being the ""not when the client is present"" term for erring partner cases. Also known as the stained underwear trail. Set mostly in the Norfolk Broads there will be humour, tragedy and boating as we accompany him in his first 15 months as a private detective. On the way we'll meet Ginger Drinkwater, Anna, Louisa, Luscious Lexus, Joe, Lee, Alexander the Weight and other characters. Approx 86,000 words. Praise for Philip's previous novel A Simple Life: Snatch in Time include: ... at times I found myself laughing out loud ... Beautifully written and love the atmosphere of the Norfolk Broads. Jane on Goodreads I finished the book in one sitting and the end surprised me ... The ending gives a poignancy to the entire book ... Charlotte on LoveReading"

Author Information

Philip lives in Norfolk with his partner. He has worked as an engineer, a college lecturer and an occasional writer for the UK's biggest selling boating magazine. Deciding he'd had enough of being an employee he set off (single handed) around the world in an elderly catamaran and, after an adventure or three, completed the circumnavigation. The collected newsletters from this voyage are available as an ebook and as a paperback - The Journal of the Alleda. He's lived quite a lot of the action portrayed in A Simple Life, not the criminal bit though. jpcorridan@gmail.com
