Davis Shetland discovers an expensive first edition he desperately wants in the antique section of his neighborhood bookstore. Once he places the book on his shelf at home, the nightmare begins. He awakens covered in blood, with no memory of what happened, only to learn that his girlfriend's sister - a woman he doesn't like - was murdered the previous night.
