Speech Therapy, Eating Disorders, & Dyslexic Speculation

Overview

Speech Therapy, Eating Disorders, & Dyslexic Speculation explores the deep roots of how trauma can affect us, and how it spreads to every aspect of life and takes over the body. This wholehearted, honest account put words to the complex emotions of loving, letting go, and not quite hating, and how difficult all of those things can be. This poetry collection is a retelling of traumatic events, an ode to regrowth and finding oneself out of the dark, and a diary of everyday struggle and triumph.

Author Information

Alys Traylor is a writer and poet, book enthusiast, fantasy lover, and not-so-beautiful mess. Traylor's favorite medium is poetry; she was a 2025 finalist for CHS 2025-2026 Poet Laureate, and she served as the Celebrator of Original Works, as well as the Co-Social Causes Lead, for CHS's 2025-2026 Poetic Justice League. Traylor's nonfiction writing can be found in The Jaguar Athenaeum, where she writes articles on college readiness and the arts, and in The JagWire, where she reports on school events, local community events, new developments, and writes a local travel blog. When she's not participating in poetry events and competitions, you can find her doing blackout poetry, reading, or doing technical theater. She lives in North Carolina.
