OverviewSome days it seems you can get along with everyone. Some days it seems everyone else is from another planet and you just stepped into an alternate universe. People are sometimes like melted crayons...some you can color with, some are too bright for you for that day, and others seem to dull how you feel. Some people you need to put back in the box...at least for a day or two, and learn a different way to get along [or color with them] on another day. Some days maybe we just shouldn't color with everyone and are feeling overwhelmed. Getting along with others is difficult, no matter who you are, what you look like, where you are from. For those of us who are neurodiverse, it seems like it is extra hard. Some days we are the ones who are melted...and we may not color our emotions and responses properly with others. That's okay. Some days others are so joyful they help make our day. Everyone at some point on some day is a special melted crayon. Neurodiversity includes neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disabilities. Neurodiversity includes variations in the human brain during sociability, learning, attention, mood, and other mental functions. In neurodiverse relationships, individuals struggle with diverse sensory sensitivities affecting relationships, experiences, sensory processing preferences, and aversions. Whether an adolescent has autism, ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, or other neurodivergence, they experience struggles and difficulties in friendships. Neurodiverse people experience emotions differently. They struggle to identify feelings and have difficulty expressing feelings due to overall discomfort when attempting relational encounters. Neurodivergent people communicate differently emotionally due to variations in sensory processing. Difficulties may include miscommunications, misunderstandings, misinterpretations that make friendships harder to make and maintain. ""Special Melted Crayons"" is amazingly wonderfully written by a NBCC Certified Clinical Mental Health Clinician, LPC-S, LPC, LAC, EMDRC Clinician who specializes in pediatric mental health. Dr. Tia Buchanan unfolds our tough 'get along with others days' in this humorous satire conception of how people (sometimes) seem like different colored emotional crayons."" ""Special Melted Crayons supports adolescents' socio-emotional responses and allows readers to have a fun way to accept people as they are...day by day, not how we want them to be...."" ""Special Melted Crayons provides a neurodiverse look into the world of diversity and acceptance, and teaches each of us how we may get through tough days when relationships and interactions with others seem difficult, on days when you seem stuck in a muck, and on days when you are able to openly communicate without feeling drained.""
