OverviewThis work is the result of an analysis of O outro pé da sereia, by Mia Couto (2006), based on the theories of identity by Stuart Hall (2006) and Homi Bhabha (1998), which deal with social identifications and representations, seeking to affirm the boundaries of the interstitial and hybrid existence of cultures; and the imaginary, by Gaston Bachelard (1988, 1994, 1999), which studies the essentially dynamic and productive nature of fictional creation, seeking to understand, with this theoretical background, the reordering of space and the derealization of time and narrative. This narrative is entirely fragmentary and zigzags along, but its events resemble true facts. However, this illusion is shattered in the sequence of the story, as the reader realizes that the events narrated are not what they seem. This procedure seduces the reader, arousing their interest in discovering the information hidden behind the facts.
