Sparrow Loves Reptiles

Overview

Join Sparrow, a curious young scientist inspired by the natural world around her, as she explores her neighborhood park with her father in this STEM picture book featuring turtles, snakes, lizards, and more. Sparrow is always curious. She loves to go outside and search for animals, drawing her findings in her sketchbook. Today, she's looking for reptiles that slither, creep, and crawl. But these camouflaged animals are not always easy to spot as they blend into their surroundings. Luckily, Sparrow is patient as well as eager to learn more about the lizards, turtles, and snakes that inhabit the park in her neighborhood. Interactive and instructive, this companion title to Sparrow Loves Birds discusses the colors, patterns, shapes, and home locations of various reptiles. It's a rich STEM offering perfect for classroom and at-home use. It also contains a young reader's guide to the reptiles spotlighted in the story.

Reviews

Praise for Sparrow Loves Reptiles ""Sparrow's curiosity, patience, and perceptiveness will inspire young naturalists as she draws on a vast store of knowledge to seek out wildlife.... While the book focuses on reptiles found in the southeastern United States, all readers, no matter their location, will find it a useful introduction....An eye-opening reminder that nature truly is all around us.""--Kirkus Reviews

Author Information

Murry Burgess always had an interest in nature, growing up in the suburbs in Minnesota, Florida, Tennessee, and Mississippi. One of her earliest memories is watching the hawks that would fly into her backyard and perch on the garden stakes. Her passion for animals led her to pursue a career in wildlife biology; Murry earned her PhD in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at North Carolina State University. As both a naturalist and conservationist, Murry believes that kids, whether living in urban or suburban settings, can connect with nature as there is wildlife all around us. Tamisha Anthony has illustrated several children's books, including Sparrow Loves Birds, There's No Place Like Hope by Janet Lawler and Most Perfect You by Jazmyn Simon. Her love of educating has led her to teach for organizations such as the New York Historical Society and Make Art That Sells, and to write and illustrate a recurring column for Uppercase magazine.
