Overview

Temporary architecture is an increasingly significant tool for the communication of cultural or commercial contents, as it is the mediator of choice between businesses, institutions and the public at large. This volume offers a perspective on this theme through an interpretation of the process of space morphing, which is the transformation and temporary redefinition of locations from empty spaces into dynamic spaces characterized by different levels of perception and communication. Through images, sketches and drawings, sixteen international projects by the studio Migliore+Servetto Architetti Associati tell of the stratification of various elements, such as light, graphics and technology, in the construction of new artificial landscapes where the users become the engine for and players in their own path to awareness.The quality of the installations therefore emerges through the various project phases, according to differing perspectives, zooming between the close-up view and the panoramic.

Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto are Italian architects who design architectural projects and installations which define space through the use of light and construction of dynamic settings. Both are teachers at the Faculty of Design at Milan Polytechnic where, until 1989, they worked alongside Achille Castiglioni. Ico Migliore is also a visiting professor at Tokyo Zokei University and Kuwazawa Design School in Tokyo.They are the recipients of several awards including 1st prize in the 1999 Ca di Bianco competition to design a museum building in Cremona, the 2006 Gold Award presented on the 20th edition of the Annual Exhibit Design Awards in the United States. They were selected for the ADI Design Index for the 2007 Golden Compass Award.Tyler Brule is a journalist, entrepreneur and the founder of the magazines Wallpaper and MonocleItalo Lupi is an architect and designs images, communication campaings, signs, temporary settings and exhibition installations. He is the editor in chief and art director of the magazine AbitareStefano Mirti is an architect who has worked in Italy,Tokyo, Seoul, and Bangkok.
