Author Information

Claudia BarileClaudia Barile is Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Bari where she is also lecturer at the Bachelor and Master Degree of Industrial Design and at the Master Degree of Mechanical Engineering. Her main research interests are connected with material characterization and experimental mechanics including strain gauges methods, acoustic emission and residual stress analysis. She is member of the PhD committee in Mechanical and Management Engineering at Politecnico di Bari. She is author of more than one hundred papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. She is co-author of five books and member of international and national associations including the Society of Experimental Mechanics, the European Society of Experimental Mechanics and the Società Scientifica Italiana di Progettazione Meccanica e Costruzione di Macchine.   Giovanni Pappalettera Giovanni Pappalettera is associate Professor at Politecnico di Bari where he is also lecturer at the Bachelor and Master Degree of Industrial Design and at the Master Degree of Mechanical Engineering. His main research interests are connected with material characterization and experimental mechanics including optical methods, acoustic emission and residual stress analysis. He is member of the PhD committee in Mechanical and Management Engineering at Politecnico di Bari. He is author of more than one hundred papers published in international journals and conference proceedings and is co-inventor of three patents. He is co-author of two books and member of international associations including the Society of Experimental Mechanics and the European Society of Experimental Mechanics.   Paramsamy Kannan Vimalthithan Vimalathithan Paramsamy Kannan is a researcher at Politecnico di Bari, Italy, where he obtained his Ph.D. degree with honors in 2021. His research interests include the Mechanical Characterization of Engineering Materials through Non-destructive Evaluation techniques, particularly the Acoustic Emission technique. He also has a special interest in the Characterization of Polymer-based Composite Materials. He has published more than 30 articles in international conferences and peer-reviewed journals on the Acoustic Emission techniques.    Caterina Casavola Prof. Casavola is a full professor of Mechanical Design at Politecnico di Bari and she teaches the Design of Innovative Materials, Experimentation on Aerostructures, and Experimental Mechanics. Prof Casavola’s research activity is concerned with the mechanical characterization of innovative materials, experimental stress analysis on real components (1:1 scale) and in situ inspection, study of residual stress generation, evolution and measurements (hole drilling method both with strain gage rosette and ESPI, X-Ray diffractometer, Barkhausen noise), and monitoring of electronic board and components by means of speckle interferometry. Prof. Casavola is the Scientific Director of the Laboratory of Static and Dynamic tests, the Laboratory of Residual Stresses, the Laboratory of Experimental Stress Analysis, Laboratory EMILIA (Experimental Mechanics Integrated Laboratory In Aerospace), and the Laboratory of Telemetry at Politecnico di Bari.
