On Sundays, everyone gathers at Granny's for Soul Food. But today, I don't go to the backyard or the great room. I follow Granny instead. ""You're a big boy now,"" Granny says. ""Time for you to learn."" At Granny's, Sunday isn't Sunday without a big family gathering over a lovingly prepared meal. Old enough now, our narrator is finally invited to help cook the dishes for the first time: he joins Granny in grating the cheese, cleaning the greens, and priming the meat for Roscoe Ray's grill. She received both bachelor's and master's degrees in education and has more than fifteen years of teaching experience. She can be found writing on a deck while waiting patiently with a camera to capture a submarine shooting out of the water. Sullivan Jones is a talented actor and audiobook narrator who played basketball and studied theater at Brown University for two years, before leaving school to pursue his career in acting. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he went on to study at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre and the UCLA School of Theatre, Film, and Television. Charles G. Esperanza is the author-illustrator of Red, Yellow, Blue (and a Dash of White, Too!). The second of six cool kids, he was born in the South Bronx, a dope land shrouded in bright-colored decay, home to graffiti and hip-hop DJs. He paints funky elephants and bodegas and other stuff mixed with wonder and whimsical truth. He has a voice that is seldom heard: a fusion of jazz, distorted guitars, and chirping birds.
