Something To Live For follows Sydney local Jen Willis and country boy Luke Dawson. Jen is navigating changes in her life, trying to figure out where she's headed. At twenty-five, she feels her dream of finding ""the one"" and starting a family slipping away. Raised in a small family with just her mother and older brother, she longs for her happy-ever-after and a home filled with children. For now, though, her focus is on caring for her six-year-old nephew Owen while his dad works in the mines of Western Australia for a year. After five months, Owen's behavior has become increasingly difficult, leaving Jen struggling to find common ground with him. Until her caregiving duties end, her search for love is on hold. Luke Dawson has battled kidney disease his whole life and now sits at the top of the transplant list. To be near the hospital, he's had to leave his farm in Tamworth and move to the city for three months to stabilize his treatment routine-or until a matching donor is found. Alone in a city where he knows no one, Luke faces the reality that time may be running out. He promised his sister he'd fight until the end, and he intends to keep that promise. He's been a steady presence for her and her two boys since her husband walked out five years ago, all living together on the family farm-a place he wishes he was now, instead of stuck in a small city townhouse.After a chance encounter one morning, Luke and Jen begin spending time together. Luke is hesitant to open up at first but gradually lets her into his world. Vicki was born in Orange, NSW. When she was two years old her family moved to Dapto, a southern suburb of Wollongong. She was kicked out of pre-school at the age of four (for reasons that she will keep to herself). When she was sixteen she moved with her parents and two sisters (Vicki is the typically misunderstood middle child) to the ACT where, ironically she studied Child Care so she could work in a pre-school. Now, at the age of 45 she still lives in Canberra with her husband and three adult/teenage children. Vicki works full time (not in the child care industry!) and is an avid baker. She spends her time taxiing her kids around and baking cup cakes for all the kids who constantly fill the house.
