OverviewThe final microstructures of materials are often obtained by transformation in the solid state. A tight control of the relevant processes is vital for a material with optimal properties, and thus for the efficient large--scale production of industrial components. In this book, based on the recent EUROMAT symposium, the most important phenomena will be treated and new directions of research outlined. The main subjects are: Modelling precipitation, eutectoid transformation and theory of TTT/ CT curves; Phase dissolution during heating; Rapid solid state transformation phenomena: massive transformation, bainite formation, martensite including crack formation of ceramics; Crystallisation of glass (metals, polymers, ceramics); Recrystallisation; Phase transformations during service.
