Soil Quality and Soil Erosion is based on invited and contributory papers of a July 1996 symposium organized by the NC-174 Committee in conjunction with the 51st Annual Meeting of the Soil and Water Conservation Society at the Keystone Center in Colorado, which reviewed progress made on soil quality and erosion-induced changes in soil quality and productivity. This volume presents state-of-the art knowledge on soil erosion and soil quality, and their impact on productivity and environments. Topics examined include erosion impact on crop yield; effect of forest management on erosion and soil productivity; and applying soil quality concepts in combating soil erosion. A valuable text on a major environmental issue This work examines the issue of accelerated soil erosion, which has become an increasingly serious concern in the twentieth century. Aspects considered include on-site impact of erosion; application of soil science to problems of non-agricultural uses of soil, such as mineland restoration, urban uses and disposal of urban wastes; soil contamination and pollution by industrial activities; and athletic and recreational uses of soil.
