CRESCY CANNAN is Lecturer in Social Policy and Social Work at the University of Sussex and Director of the Master in Social Work programme. Her interests have included radical social work, gender and politics, family centres, and social welfare and social policy in contemporary Europe, especially France and Germany. LYNNE BERRY is Director of the Family Welfare Association. She promoted European social development at the National Institute of Social Work as a writer and consultant. Her research interests include participation, user rights and women's issues. KAREN LYONS is the Principle Lecturer in Social Work at the Polytechnic of East London. She was previously engaged in practice, research and management in the social work field. Her current research interests are in comparative social work and the career patterns of social workers.
