OverviewIn recent years, globalisation of the world economy has become the main subject of many political and economic debates at the international level. Whether we think of meetings of the WTO, the UNCTAD, the World Economic Forum or the European Union, globalisation turned out to be a key-issue at every single one of these meetings. This concept is not only challenging for politicians or economists, it also raises many questions and even fear amongst the public at large, as shown by the many demonstrations all around the world we have witnessed recently. Globalisation is said to be the cause of many social problems, such as growing inequalities and diminishing social protection. This publication is the final report of a four-year research project on globalisation and social security that has been conducted by the Institute of Social Law and the Department of Sociology of the KU Leuven.
