Joseph R. Herkert is assistant professor ofMultidisciplinary Studies at North Carolina State University wherehe teaches in the Science, Technology and Society Program and isdirector of the Benjamin Franklin Scholars Program--a dualdegree program in engineering and humanities/social sciences. Healso holds an associate appointment in the Department of Electricaland Computer Engineering. Dr. Herkert has published papers inIEEE Technology and Society Magazine, IEEE Transactionson Education, Technological Forecasting and SocialChange, Science and Engineering Ethics, and theJournal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education andPractice. He has served as guest editor of special issues forSocial Science Computer Review and The Journal ofElectronic Publishing. Dr. Herkert is a past president of theIEEE Society on Social Implications on Technology (SSIT) andcurrently serves as publications chair of SSIT and editorial boardchair of IEEE Technology and Society Magazine.
